About Caye Caulker

A half mile west of the second largest barrier reef and 21 miles from Belize City is Caye Caulker, a Caribbean island five miles long and less than a mile wide. The most notable landmark on Caye Caulker, known as the “Split,” cuts the island into two parts: the south and north islands. The southern area is home to the colorful, low-key town of Caye Caulker where sandy lanes wind past tropical clapboard houses, family-run restaurants, palapa bars, and local street artisans. To the north, newly opened restaurants and beach clubs are scattered along the shoreline, which makes for a fun day exploring on foot or bike. Once a traditional Caribbean fishing village best known for its lobster harvest, tourism has gradually become the island’s primary industry. With no cars and paved roads, only bicycles and golf carts, Caye Caulker maintains an intimate, authentic feel best captured by the island’s mantra: “Go Slow.”

Guests are drawn to the island for world-class diving, snorkeling and fishing, or simply to sit back and relax. There is something for everyone to enjoy. A snorkeling trip can take you out to Caye Caulker or Hol Chan Marine Reserves to admire the colorful coral reef gardens and swim alongside turtles, fish of every color, nurse sharks, manatees and so much more. For more active adventures, there is windsurfing, kitesurfing, and jet skiing. Caye Caulker offers the perfect balance of adventure and tranquility, creating a truly unforgettable escape. So settle in with a refreshing drink, gaze out over the turquoise sea, and watch the sun set on another perfect island day.
